Behind all the pop hits and sportscasts, your radio is home to some strange things. At the height of the Cold War, listeners began noticing bizarre broadcasts over the waves. They consisted of weird melodies, and recitals of random numbers and letters. These unsettling transmissions were known as Number Stations. It’s believed these stations were used to send coded messages across long distances.
